Is Invisalign right for you?

Invisalign, which offers "the clear alternative to braces," is a widely used product in orthodontic treatment. Below are some common questions that we hear regarding this popular system.

What is Invisalign?

Using a sequence of clear, removable aligners our patients are able to accomplish orthodontic goals without the use of braces. This is an ever-expanding technology that has brought a lot of excitement to our team and our patients.

What are the perks of Invisalign?

With Invisalign, there are no eating restrictions, and removable aligners can be taken out for an interview, presentation, or performance.

Is Invisalign an option for every patient?

While it is not the best course of treatment for ALL patients,  Drs. Amley and McEntire will help you determine whether or not a portion if not all of your orthodontic care can be accomplished with this system.

What's it like having Invisalign at Amley McEntire Orthodontics?

The first step is to complete a digital scan (no "impressions") with our state of the art Itero Element Scanner.  From there, the treatment plan is developed with our doctors and the Invisalign technician. We are then ready to start treatment that can be as brief as 5-6 months for limited needs.

Please take a moment to learn more about either of these systems at the links below, and ask about Invisalign at your next appointment!

  • Disinfectant

You can bring your donations to your next appointment, or drop them off at your convenience.  The folks at Salvation Army are so appreciative of the support, and we thank you in advance for helping us provide some extra supplies for this wonderful organization and the men, women and children they serve.

Throw Back Thursday- Canterbury High School Students Dressed for Service

For this "throw back Thursday", we'd like to highlight an event that actually took place earlier in 2017. In January, our friends at Canterbury High School completed their first annual service day to give back to the St. Petersburg community.  We were honored to provide the day's uniform, a unifying t-shirt displaying the quote by Mahatma Ghandi "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others". We have loved seeing the Amley McEntire logo on these fine high school students and were proud to be a very small part of this day.  What an awesome way to have started the semester! Way to go guys.

"Do it yourself braces"... Fact or Fiction?

In recent months, the term "do it yourself braces" has made headlines.   In fact, Dr. McEntire was approached by a local news station to be a subject matter expert and was interviewed for a news segment which aired this month! Here are the facts...

  • You can find ANYTHING on the internet. The fact that someone else did it, does not make it safe.
  • Orthodontists spent 6-7 years after college learning about the ideal position, shape, and health of each tooth. They're available to help!
  • Trying to move a tooth yourself could alter your bite, and the results could be very unstable.

Did you know that a consultation to meet with an orthodontist is typically free of charge? We recommend speaking directly with an orthodontist to help you determine your best course of action when it comes to straightening your teeth.  While "do it yourself braces" may sound intriguing, there are some negative outcomes that are easily avoided by simply seeking professional guidance.

Dr. Ed and Dr. McEntire sharpen their skills!

Damon.JPG

Most days, Dr. Ed and Dr. McEntire get to learn from each other while collaborating about patient cases.  On February 22, they spent the day in Orlando learning from experts of the "Damon System" of orthodontics.

Dentistry is a profession that is constantly moving forward. Dr. Ed and Dr. McEntire value Continuing Education (CE) opportunities that keep them up to date with orthodontic advancements.  Safer, faster, more esthetic, more comfortable treatment options are desirable, and Dr. Ed and Dr. McEntire are always willing to learn something new to ultimately provide the best result possible for their patients.

Never stop learning!

Will braces affect sports play, music lessons, and other activities for my teen?

We are often asked, "Will braces interfere with playing sports?"  The answer is..  nope! It is recommended, however, that patients protect their smiles by wearing a mouth guard when participating in any sporting activity. Mouth guards are inexpensive, comfortable, and come in a variety of colors and patterns. Please let the doctor know that one is needed.

If our patient plays a musical instrument, we gladly work with them and their music instructor to make sure braces do not interfere with upcoming concerts or competitions.

Please ask us if you have any questions regarding braces and extra curricular activities!
