A note from Dr. McEntire about Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness month.
During my time at Auburn University, I had an opportunity to work with Camp Smile-A-Mile, a camp for kids whose lives were personally affected by cancer. Doctors and nurses came to camp so that even kids in active treatment could attend. Our campers were heroes who had been through rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, countless days in the hospital, and some of them were less than 7 years old. It was at Camp Smile-A-Mile that I began to hate cancer.
This week, various friends and family in the Tampa Bay Area are reminded of the same hatred. Cailin Canella, a swimmer at the Academy of the Holy Names, lost a year-long battle with osteosarcoma. She was a joy to be around, and this loss is sure to affect many. I'm hopeful that you'll all join us in showing support for Cailin and all of the other kids who are burdened with cancer. Please consider using one of the following links that we assure you support GREAT organizations fighting the good fight.
"Make Your Bed; Brush Your Teeth" A special blog post by Dr. McEntire
I am currently reading Admiral William Mcaven's Make Your Bed, and am inspired to say the least! It's interesting to consider that each day is a summation of decision points. We all have multiple decisions we make each day. Some days contain more decisions than others, and some days hold more important decisions than others. I think we'd all agree that making the "right" decisions would lead to a better day.
Every morning we wake up to start the day's routine, and within that routine we can include some positive efforts that will set us up for success: make your bed before you leave the bedroom, and brush your teeth before you leave the house. Making the bed is an active decision to pursue order in your day, and your room will look mostly well-kept even if there are other things that need to be put away. Brushing your teeth is the first healthy decision you can make in your day. Choosing "order" and "health" will hopefully start us on a positive trend that will lead to a day of success.
This summer, we hope that you're all resting and spending time with friends and family!

Thank you SO much to our patients and friends who donated to our "Spring Cleaning" drive benefiting the St. Petersburg Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is such an important part of our community, and we were so happy to help out. Dr. McEntire delivered the items to one of their wonderful representatives, Randi-lynn Farrell, last week with his side-kick (and youngest daughter) Rosie.

Is Invisalign right for you?
Invisalign, which offers "the clear alternative to braces," is a widely used product in orthodontic treatment. Below are some common questions that we hear regarding this popular system.
What is Invisalign?
Using a sequence of clear, removable aligners our patients are able to accomplish orthodontic goals without the use of braces. This is an ever-expanding technology that has brought a lot of excitement to our team and our patients.
What are the perks of Invisalign?
With Invisalign, there are no eating restrictions, and removable aligners can be taken out for an interview, presentation, or performance.
Is Invisalign an option for every patient?
While it is not the best course of treatment for ALL patients, Drs. Amley and McEntire will help you determine whether or not a portion if not all of your orthodontic care can be accomplished with this system.
What's it like having Invisalign at Amley McEntire Orthodontics?
The first step is to complete a digital scan (no "impressions") with our state of the art Itero Element Scanner. From there, the treatment plan is developed with our doctors and the Invisalign technician. We are then ready to start treatment that can be as brief as 5-6 months for limited needs.
Please take a moment to learn more about either of these systems at the links below, and ask about Invisalign at your next appointment!

The folks at Salvation Army are so appreciative of the support, and we thank you in advance for helping us provide some extra supplies for this wonderful organization and the men, women and children they serve.
Throw Back Thursday- Canterbury High School Students Dressed for Service
For this "throw back Thursday", we'd like to highlight an event that actually took place earlier in 2017. In January, our friends at Canterbury High School completed their first annual service day to give back to the St. Petersburg community. We were honored to provide the day's uniform, a unifying t-shirt displaying the quote by Mahatma Ghandi "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others". We have loved seeing the Amley McEntire logo on these fine high school students and were proud to be a very small part of this day. What an awesome way to have started the semester! Way to go guys.
